I've purchased a GPX5000,if anyone has any suggestions on settings I could start with would be much appreciated.

I must agree with you regarding the lack of a decent Volume Control.
Just how how much would it cost to fit a small volume control pot onto the control box? ($2.00 ?) There is certainly enough physical room
to fit one there.
My 4500 has the same fault of course but I find it easier to just pull out the phone jack if I need to converse with anyone . Of course in a reasonable world this shouldn't be necessary.
Maybe they will fit one on the next model and call it an upgrade?
