Gidday From Bill, Udo, Sue, Ray and Kurk

This newsletter is an update for the new Metal Detecting WA site which has now been released. It describes how we have now reported the locations of Historical Goldmines in WA.

In 1954, the Mines Department published a book called "List of Cancelled Gold mining Leases Which Have Produced Gold". It listed all the gold mines that had produced gold up to that date. The Cover is pictured below.

The information included in the book is;
- the goldfield name,
- mining centre,
- lease number,
- mine name,
- mined ore in tonnes,
- fine ounces of gold produced,
- fine ounces of alluvial and dollied gold,
- and the production period.

We have taken this information and created a Google KML file on our metal detecting WA site. This now provides you the Locations of all of those mines

Metal Detecting WA Membership Now Has Locations Included

In the Metal Detecting WA membership Site You can open this KML: file to access all the historical mines.

We have aligned the GPS points to the mines, allowing you to open Google Earth and use it to study and search for potential gold finding locations.

The 1954 mines book is a crucial document.

Many details of those mines have disappeared over time.

However, on the metal detecting WA site, we have established links between the names of the old gold mines and their locations.

You can download this information from your downloads page for each district and use it to open up Google Earth and display the mines.
